The “Antiqua-Fraktur Dispute” in the 19th and 20th centuries saw a prolonged debate over whether Fraktur or Antiqua was the correct style to use, with Fraktur eventually being replaced by Antiqua. Fraktur was ornate yet more readable than Textualis, and its popularity soared following its commission by Emperor Maximilian I in the early 16th century.
